William C. George Tonsfeldt was one of five children who lived past the year 1900 on the family's farm at East Orange Township, Granville, Sioux Co., Iowa when the 1900 U. S. Census was taken on June 13, 1900. His parents, Hinrich "Henry" Tonsfeldt, a native of Rendsburg in the Schleswig-Holstein region of Germany, and Anne Wilhemine Heldt, also a native of that same region in Germany came to America in 1866 and 1868, respectively, met and later married on March 19, 1873 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Luzerne, Vinton County, Iowa. The couple would have nine children in all, although four of them never lived past childhood. The children of Hinrich and Anne Wilhemine Tonsfeldt were:

William C. George was born Oct 4, 1893 and lived on the family's farm as a farm laborer following schooling. He and Minnie Johanna Raveling, a native of Meadow Township, Plymouth Co., Iowa, were married on February 22nd, 1916 in Remsen, Iowa. Three children were born of their union but the couple was no longer together by 1925. Their children were Frances, b.1917, and Eunice, b.1918. William remarried on May 10, 1927 at Le Mars, Iowa, to Lena (Helena) Christina Matthiesen Christophersen, a widow of Herman Christophersen, a farmer who had died in Feb 1921 from pneumonia. Herman and Lena had been the parents of three young children when he died, daughters Alvia M. A., b.1913, and Leona E. M.,b.1916, and a son, Lawrence, b.1911. They farmed northeast of the Remsen area until 1940, in the Cherokee Area until 1945 and finally moved into town in 1954. Lena outlived William, who passed on Nov 29, 1975. Lena passed away October, 1985. Both are buried at Remsen Cemetery, Plymouth County, Iowa. Per William's obituary notice, Lawrence preceded him in death. Lena's daughter, Leona Christopherson Kemp, wife of Orren Kemp, died in 1994.

"Obituary. Wiliam G. Tonsfeldt.
William G. Tonsfeldt, 82, Remsen, died Nov 29, 1975 at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack. Services were Monday in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church. Rev Thomas Renquist officiated. Burial was in the Remsen city cemetery with the Moeller funeral home in charge.
Mr. Tonsfeldt was born Oct 4, 1893, in rural Remsen. He married Mrs. Lena Christophersen May 10, 1927, in Le Mars.
They farmed northeast of Remsen until 1940, in the Cherokee area until 1945 and moved to town in 1954. Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Michael (Frances) Church of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Oscar (Eunice) Bergquist of Sioux City, and Mrs. Alma Schiltz and Mrs. Orren (Leona) Kemp, both of Le Mars; six grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren."

Mr. Tonsfeldt was born Oct 4, 1893 in rural Remsen. His marriage to Lena Christophersen took place May 10, 1927 in Le Maars. They farmed northeast of Remsen until 1940, in the Cherokee area until 1945 and moved to town in 1954.
Survivors are his widow Lena; four daughters, Mrs. Michael (Frances) Church of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Oscar (Eunice) Bergquist of Sioux City, and Mrs. Alma Schiltz and Mrs. Orren (Leona) Kemp, both of Le Mars; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, and a sister Ida Tonsfeldt of Remsen. He was preceded in death by a son Lawrence and by seven brothers and sisters.
Pall bearers wee[sic] were grandchildren: Bob Mathers, Duane White, Robert Bjork, Craig Berquist, Hugh Boylan and Robert Waggoner. The Moeller funeral home was in charge of arrangements." - Remsen Bell-Enterprise, December 4, 1975, page 1, column 2.
