Allen L. Fossum, age 83, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at the Canton Good Samaritan Center. His Celebration of Life will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Lands Lutheran Church of rural Hudson. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Allen LeRoy Fossum was born December 19, 1927 on a farm near Canton, the son of Paul and Clara (Ulrikson) Fossum. He attended country school near Canton.

Allen and Erma Tammen were united in marriage July 12, 1949 in Lennox, SD. They farmed in the Worthing and Sioux Falls area before moving to a farm near Canton. Besides farming, Allen also worked as a crop insurance adjustor.
Allen was an active member of Lands Lutheran Church and a former deacon. Allen and Erma loved to dance and were members of the Arkota Polka Club and Moose Lodge. He was a Boy Scout & 4-H leader and was an instrumental leader in starting Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, and restoring tractors. Allen was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and grandpa great.

Grateful for having shared his life are: his wife of 62 years, Erma; his children - Lynda (Richard) Rol, Gary, SD, Gary (Lori) Fossum, Lennox, SD, Ardyce Fossum, wife of Dennis, who died in 2010, Dell Rapids, SD, Douglas (Jodie) Fossum, Canton, SD, Debra (Raymond) Harris, Canton, SD, Carol (Robert) Bucholz, Harrisburg, SD, and Alan (Mary) Fossum, Canton, SD; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two sisters - Nila Olson, Centerville, SD and Clarice (Fred) Haan, Chancellor, SD; and two sisters-in-law - Ida Fossum, Lennox, SD and Mildred Fossum, Canton, SD.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis, grandson, Douglas Fossum, Jr., great-granddaughter, Lauren Peterson, his parents, and two brothers, Ernest and Paul.
