Forrest is survived by his wife, Alberta, of Oelwein, two stepsons: Charles Baker and his wife, Susan, of Alliance, Nebraska; Steve Baker and his wife, Pat, of Helena, Alabama; three stepdaughters: Kathy Gordish and her husband, Matt, of Oelwein; Diane McCann and her husband, Matt, of Hazleton; Karla Vandersee, and her husband, Chris, of Weatherford, Oklahoma; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Heitland, and his wife, Ruth, of Buffalo Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Edward, Norman, Harold, Huxley and Alfred; four sisters: Grace, Margaret, Esther and Mildred."

Alberta M. Heitland, 92, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein.

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Visitation: 9:00 A.M. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment: At a later date at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

A Memorial Fund has been established in her name.

Alberta Mae Westendorf was born March 3, 1922 at Tripoli, Iowa, the daughter of August and Sylvia (Miller) Westendorf. On February 11, 1939, she was united in marriage to James Floyd Baker at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. James died on January 15, 1982. On December 3, 1988, she married Forrest Merle Heitland at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Alberta was employed for many years at the Mealey Hotel and Restaurant in Oelwein. She enjoyed embroidery work, puzzles, baking, growing house plants and watching her tropical fish.

Alberta is survived by her son, Steve (Pat) Baker of Plainfield, Illinois; 3 daughters, Kathy (Matt) Gordish of Oelwein, Diane (Matt) McCann of Hazleton and Karla (Chris) Vandersee of Weatherford, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marlene Serfling of Hazleton and Delores (Marty) Schmitt of Shell Knob, Missouri; and a 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Westendorf of Oelwein and Joyce Westendorf of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, James Baker and Forrest Heitland; 2 sons, Leonard Baker and Charles Baker; and daughter, Karen Szemkus; 5 brothers, Harold, Laverne, Paul, Lorraine and Harry Westendorf; and 3 sisters, Wilma Westendorf, Grace Lestikow and Evelyn Lenius.
