Albert Simon Fredrick Goetz
(October 4, 1917 - September 11, 2007)

Albert Simon Fredrick Goetz, age 89, of Armstrong, IA died on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, IA.

His funeral ceremony was held at 10:30 AM Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota, IA with Reverend Marino Melsted. Burial was at Highland Home Cemetery in Ledyard.

Visitation hours were from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota.

Albert Simon Fredrick Goetz, youngest child of Herman and Mary (Schaumburg) Goetz was born October 4, 1917. He was raised on the family farm west of Ledyard and graduated from the Ledyard Community School. Albert farmed with his father and on February 7, 1945 he married Kathrine Poppe. While Albert and Kathrine farmed in and around the Ledyard and Lakota area for 36 years, their last move brought them to the farm that Albert grew up on. To their union were born three sons; Derald, Rodney, and Keith. In 1981, they retired and moved to a home in the town of Ledyard. Albert passed away on Tuesday evening, September 11, 2007.

Albert was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lakota and spent all of his life farming. He enjoyed being out on the farm. Even after moving to town, he still made daily trips to the farm to see how things were growing. His grandchildren recall the memories of "walking soybeans" with grandpa. His indoor hobbies included reading Western books, playing cards, following the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games, and watching the Minnesota Vikings.

Albert is survived by his children; Derald and his wife Pamela (Rusher), Rodney and his wife Charlene (Ahrens), Keith and his wife Wanda (Ubben), and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin sister Ella Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathrine; his parents; two brothers, Herman Goetz Jr., and Rudolph Goetz; and four sisters, Lena Selberg, Freida Richardson, Florence Balvance, and Melinda DuPaw.
