Obituary of Ben Heyes Sr.

Shortly after noon on Thursday, March 22, Ben Heyes Sr. was colled from this life to the llife beyond. He was born on Novemer 2, 1850 at Berta, Holland. He moved from there to Austinville, Iowa; from there to Bristow, and finally tothis community. On August 16, 1872, Mr. Heyes was united in marriage with Isena Broesder. This union was blessed with eight children: an infant, Dick, Trena, Werlman and Auka, all of whom preceded their father in death; and AnnaKoopman, Michigan; Nancy Van der Veen of this community; Gertie Schriever of Rockford, Iowa and George Heyes of this community. His aged wife of 87, remains to mourn his departure. Had he lived until August 16 of this year, they wouldhave celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Besides the above, he has left behind 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Heyes had already suffered from various ailments from about eight years. Of recent date his mental abilities began to fail and it was a merciful act of God to call him from this life in which he no longer had much enjoyment. Hereached the advanced age of 29 years, 4 months and 20 days. Much credit and praise is due those who served him and cared for hum during his last years of declining vitality."
