OBITUARY

L. J. "Toot" Foster, prominent Auctioneer and race fan, dies. An illness of complications claimed the life of Lewis J. "Toot" Foster, aged 70, a member of board of directors and a forner president of the Coshocton Co. AgriculturalSociety, at his hone at 226 North Fourth St. last eveing at 6:30 o'clock. He had been in poor health since last May.

Mr. Foster had been a member of the fair board for the past 22 years and was superintendent of the speed department at the fair for the last 12 years. at the time of his death he was a member of the executive committee and superintendentof speed. He was one of the first grange organizers in Coshocton Co.

The deceased was elected county commissioner in the fall of 1916 and served one month, then resigned because he did not care for the job. He also served two terms as trustee of Tuscarawas Twp. He was a stockholder in the Glass UndertakingCo. Mr. Foster served as an auctioneer thruout the county for many years.

He was born in Jackson Twp. August 30, 1861, a son of Ebenezer and Maria Markley Foster. His father was a pioneer settler in the county and became wealthy landowner. Mr. Foster resided for 36 years in the vicinity of Canal Lewisville.For the past 14 years Mr. and Mrs. Foster resided in Coshocton.

He was married to Miss Carrie R. Lennon on December 14, 1881 and on last December 14 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all members of their family present.

Mr. Foster gave his political support to the Democratic party. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and the Oak Grove grange. He was well known and highly respected thruout the county.

Beside the children and the widow, one brother, Abe Foster, North Third St.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Grace M. E. church. The body will be taken to the church at 1 o'clock and may be viewed by friends until time for services. Burial will be made in the CanalLewisville cemetery. The following members of Coshocton Co. Agricultural society will serve as pallbearers; M. A. McConnell, A. P. Stewart, Hugh Hay, Noah Barrett, John Latier and Leslie Poreus.
