The Ashton Gazette: Posted: Friday, Mar 21st, 2008 ASHTON -Louise J. Kersten, 93, of Franklin Grove, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, Dixon. Mrs. Kersten was born April 14, 1914, in Oregon, the daughter of Wilke and Katie (Reinema) Engelkes. She married Clarence H. Kersten on June 23, 1934, in Ashton. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1986. Louise was a member of the AshtonUnited Methodist Church and the Rochelle Country Club. She was an avid bridge player. Survivors include one son, Gene A. (Karen) Kersten, of Bosser City, La; one daughter, Mary Hunter, of Ashton; three grandchildren, Robert (Theresa) Hunter, of Dixon, Jody Hunter, of Ashton, Penny Kersten, of Chicago; twogreat-grandchildren, Jeremy Hunter, of Dixon, Hayden Kersten, of Chicago and two sisters, Elsie Hamas, of Dixon, and Erda Johnson, of Rockford. Louise was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Amanda Williams, Margaret Engelkesand five brothers, Albert, Hiram, Clarence, Wilke Jr., and August Engelkes. Funeral services will be at11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Ashton United Methodist Church, Ashton, with the Rev. Karl Sokol, pastor of the Franklin Grove United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ashton Cemetery.Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. A memorial has been established.
