Note: Reinharda married Johann Rudolph Gerken on Dec. 3, 1870 in the Silver Creek Reformed Church, Stephenson County, IL. 10 children were born to this union; Margaretha Harmina, Reinsteina, Sarah, Harmina, Jan, Reint Reints, Bernhard, BerendJ., Jennie and Lydia. Reinharda attained the age of 74 years, 9 months and 16 days. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Founding a business establishment here in 1888, J. R. Gerken became identified with the business life of this community over half a century ago. He continued in active business for about twenty one years selling his interest to his son,Ben J. John R. Gerken was born January 14, 1848 at Rispe, Ostfriesland, Germany. He grew to manhood in his native land and at the age of 19 years he came to America and located near German Valley, Stephenson County, Illinois, in 1866. On December 3, 1870 he was united in marriage to Reinharda Reints. The couple located on a farm in Stephenson County where they continued to reside for seventeen years. Ten children were born to this union. Mrs. Gerken was born in Germany July 13, 1851. She came to America with her mother and sisters in the year 1863 and settled in German Valley, Illinois. There she continued her residence until her marriage. The family came west to Dakota Territory in 1877 locating on a farm southwest of this city. The following year the family took up their residence in Lennox where Mr. Gerken established the Lennox Meat Market. Mrs. Gerken passed away at her home in Lennox on April 29, 1926.Mr. Gerken died on December 25, 1932. Children living are: Mrs. Margaret Heeren of Hayward, Calif., Mrs. Jennie Strasser of Wilmot, S. D., Mrs. Arthur Schroedermeier and Ben J. Gerken, Lennox.
