Mrs. BEN BEENKEN A KOSSUTH PIONEER

Came to This Country in the 80's-Has Resided on the Old Home-Stead Over Thirty Years.

Tena Spier was born at Oestfriesland, Germany on April 20, 1877. In 1882 she emigrated to America with her parents, living in Illinois for one year. From there they moved to Grundy County where they made their home for several years after which they moved to Kossuth County where the deceased lived at the time of her death. In 1892 she was married to Mr. Ben Beenken and started housekeeping on Mr. Beenken's homestead where they have lived ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Beenken were the parents of seven children, one of whom died in infancy. The following mourn the death of a loving and devoed mother: Herman, Bennie, Dick, Harold, Katie and Grace all of whom are at home. Other relatives are Mrs. Spier, her mother, of Buffalo Center, one brother, John Spier of Titonka, and three sisters, Mrs. Helmer Beenken of Titonka, Mrs. Aggo Jenssen of Lakota and Miss Jellie Spier of Buffalo Center. One brother Bobert, and a sister Katie preceded her in death.

At the time of her demise, Mrs. Spier was 49 years, 5 months and 12 days of age. She had suffered for several years from what proved to be an incurable illness. She was a patient at the Park Hospital at Mason City for some time last spring and came home seemingly improved. She returned to the hospital again this fall and it was there that she passed away on October 3. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 Wednesday, October 6th and at the German Reformed church at 2:00, with Rev. Haken the pastor afficiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

We have known Mrs. Beenken for a good many years and know her to have been a kind and loving wife and mother, whose influence was for good among all who knew her. The sympathy of the community goes out to Mr. Beebken and his children in their hour of sorrow."
