Brandon, SD - Gertrude Karli, 89, died Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, IA. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church in rural Valley Springs, SD. The family will be present to greet friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, February 1 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, SD.

Gertrude Berkhof, daughter of Bastian and Beredena (Elbers) Berkhof, was born June 4, 1925 in Rock Rapids, IA. Growing up she attended the Lyon County Country School. On March 19, 1946 she married Walter Rippentrop in Steen, MN. The couple made their home in rural Valley Springs, SD. To this union two children, Cheryl and Brian were born. Walter passed away on February 22, 1966. On August 1, 1969, Gertrude married Francis "Fritz" Karli in Garretson, SD. The couple lived in rural Valley Springs before moving to Brandon, SD in 1990. Fritz passed away on January 18, 2008.

Gertrude was a member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church and the Minnehaha County Extension. In her younger years, she enjoyed golfing with friends, traveling and bowling. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by all those who shared her life.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Cheryl (Randy) Crampton, Storm Lake, IA; step-daughters, Janis (Orrin) Tietz, Bloomington, MN, Jeane Wright, Brandon, SD, and Marlene Kriech, Sioux Falls 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law, Noreen Berkhof, Dorothy Van Burkum, Mavis Berkhof, Judy Berkhof, and Marvin and Irene Smith.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Walter and Francis; son, Brian Rippentrop; sister, Johanna Jacobson; and brothers, Arie, Gilbert, B. Jr., and Robert.
