Note: Elizabeth Akkerman, 84, a resident of the Willow Lake community for many years, passed away July 1 at the Mother Joseph Manor at Aberdeen. Services were held Friday at the Miller-Huebl Funeral Home at Aberdeen with the Rev. Harold E Salem officiating. Internement was in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake.

Elizabeth Fiekens was born on November 23, 1905 at Glover, ND to Herman and Grace (Ackerman) Fiekens. She moved with her family in 1908 to SD and the Willow Lake area. She grew up and attended schools at Willow Lake and was married to Herman Akkerman on June 19, 1935 at Avon. They made their home in the Willow Lake area until their retirement in 1947 when they moved into Willow Lake. Mr. Akkerman died on August 10, 1980 and she continued to make Willow Lake her home until 1988 when she became a resident of the Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years; Sunday School teacher and Ladies Aide for many years; and also active in the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by two brothers edward Fiekens of Barnard, and herman Fiekens of laMoure, ND several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and four brothers.

Serving as pallbearers were Sheldion Cruse, Elwood Groenwold, Roger Fiekens, Glen Hassebrock, Augie Mundhenke, and Marlow Froke.
