Note:

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Trinity Lutheran church at Tea for Bendard (Ben) Gerken, lifelong resident of the Lennox-Tea area. The Rev. Theo G Kuehner officiated. Internment was in the Lennox cemetery. Pallbearerswere Mel Schoen, Otto Olson, Dan Weise, Ben DeVries, W. Wallenstein, Harvey Eichmeirer. Following an illness of 2 weeks duration, Mr. Gerken passed away in Sioux Valley hospital at 8:30 Wednesday morning, January 23. He had been a patient there for 8 days. Deceased attained the age of 72 years, 9 months, and 7 days.

Born on a farm south of Lennox on March 30, 1884, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frerick Gerken, he grew to manhood in this locality and continued farming operations. On February 6, 1909 he was united in marriage to Anna Akkerman at Sioux Falls andfor 13 years the couple farmed in the Tea vicinity. 2 children were born to this union. After taking up there residence in Tea, Mr. Gerken was employed in railroad with the Great Northern Railroad for 27 years, retiring in 1949. He was amember of the Lutheran church.

Survivors include his widow; 2 daughters Alma (Mrs. M. A. Wilbur) and Esther (Mrs. John Snyder) both of Sioux Falls; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; 5 sisters, Mrs. Ed Muller and Mrs Fred Jongeling of Lennox, Mrs Ude Davids ofSibley, IA; Mrs Minnie Sawyer of Bakersfield, CA and Mrs. Julius Polzine of Worthington, MN.
