"Jacob Boomgaarden -- was born in Ostfriesland, Germany, in 1853. When he was three years old, his family came to the United States in a sailboat. ... they settled in Illinois. In 1876 Jacob married Harmanna Freerks whose parents hadcome over on the same sailboat. Harmanna, however, was born in Illinois. Jacob and Harmanna moved to Butler County, and it was not until 1892 that they moved to the farm seven miles north of George where Mrs. Jasper DeVries now lives.
