Fern was Floyd's second wife; his first wife, Mabel, died in 1947. He adopted Larry, Fern's son from a previous marriage. Along with Floyd's three children from Mabel, and Larry, Floyd and Fern had two children of their own. He is buriedat Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare Co, MI.

His obituary: "Floyd A. Squires, age 85 of Clare, passed away on Friday, November 15, 1996 in the Tendercare Nursing Home in Clare. He was born on April 20, 1911 in Flint, and he moved to the Clare area soon after and was a life resident of the area.He married Mabel Heber in 1935 and she preceded him in death in 1947. He then married Fern Garver on January 1, 1949 at Arthur Township. Mr. Squires was a truck driver for the Clare County Road Commission. He was a member of the FirstBaptist Church of Clare. He is survived by his wife Fern; three sons, Donald Squires of Brant, Larry and Jo Squires of Sanford, and Joseph and Sherlyn Squires of Midland; two daughters, Darlene and Larry Seiter of Clare and Donna andChester Harris of Grand Rapids; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dean Squires. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 18, 1996 at the First Baptist Church in Clare with PastorDouglas Blackwell officiating. Burial took place in the Cherry Grove Cemetery at Clare. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Organ Fund. Arrangements were by the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home of Clare."
