OBITUARY: Belmond, Independent, June 32, [sic] 1961. - Funeral services were held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Tuesday, June 20, 1981, for Bert Lieuwen, 78, of Mason City who died June 27, 1981 at Mercy hospital. Msgr. AlvanHeuring officiated. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery. fulton Funeral Home of Belmond, IA. was in charge of arrangements. A prayer services was held Monday evening."

Bert was born July 8, 1902, in rural Hancock Co. to teeke and Helen Frey Lieuwen. He attended rural school in Hancock Co. He left Belmond in 1927 and worked for Standard Oil Co. for 26 years in Mason City. (He operated a Standard OilStation). He married Mary Ellen HUTSON in 1928 and after her death he married Ena Adaline HARDIN HART (Wid) on September 19, 1959. After retiring form the oil station he worked for Currie Manufacturing Co. He was first a member of theMethodist Church, and after his second marriage joined the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Surviving are his wife Ena of Mason city, astep-son Lowell Hart of Bettendorf; two brothers: George and Donald, both of Belmond; and seven sisters: Nellie Barkema, Belmond; Rose (Mrs. Ralph) Baker, Belmond; Helen (Mrs Gene) Kelley, of Oxford Junction: Mourine (Mrs Joe) Pele,Belmond: Mabel (Mrs. Clif) Evans, Clarion; Mary Jasperson (Mrs. Andy), of Glendale, California; and Margaret (Mrs. Ken) Parker, Yucipa, California. Casket bearers were Hauko Barkema, Lambert Barkema, Leo9 Barkema, Carl Green, Randy Hart,Harold Myrton, and Thomas Lee Hart. ..."
