Sylvia Nelson Sioux Falls 03/21/03

Sylvia Nelson, age 82 of Sioux Falls, died Thursday at the Good Samaritan Center. She was born on Feb. 3, 1921 at Hetland, SD, the daughter of Hjalmer and Olga (Erickson) Johnson. She grew up on the family farm and attended countryschool. Sylvia Married John H. Nelson on Sept. 12, 1942 at Arlington, SD. They lived at Sioux Falls where Sylvia worked at home and cared for her children. When her children were older, she worked as a clerk for the US Postal Service for10 years and retired in 1979. John passed away on June 20, 1982.

Sylvia played the accordion in a country band in her younger years and enjoyed camping at the lake and river.

She is survived by seven children, Loren (Char) Nelson of Sioux Falls, Sharon (Les) Mage of Anoka, MN, Terry Nelson of Colton, Dale (Jane) Nelson of Sioux Falls, Lois (Laurel) Egeberg of Sioux Falls, Roger Nelson of Sioux Falls, Mary(Jack) Peters of Garretson; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Visitation is 4-8 pm Sunday at Chapel Hill with family present 4-6 pm. Funeral is 11 am Monday at Chapel Hill. <>
