Notes about Jennie Grace Alvey

Jennie Grace Alvey

Source: Author: Russell, Lee, Title: Annotated Alvey/Manning FGS, (Publication location: Muncie IN, Publisher: L.R., Publication date: xii Nov MCMXCIII)

Lee Russell writes, "Jennie Alvey Lutz was pregnant when her son Herbert Lutz was 12 and 'accidentally' shot by neighbor boy. This happened circa ______, and, years later, she is so frail, but frugal - still wore high top buttonedleather shoes. her daughter, Mabel, lived to be blind (in her nineties) and she had a son Kenneth gregory who was living in Kokomo IN 91990) & a daughter, Dorothy gregory Edwards, lives in California. she has a son Robert Edwards wholives in Union City, IN - (1989)" - xii Nov MCMXCIII - Muncie IN

1900 census, Repository: Dallas TX pub. lib. has 1896. Lee Russell has 1894.

Lee Russell marks an 'X' through the mm/yy of birth for Jennie Alvey on my FGS dated xxviii Oct MCMXCIII. The Dec 1886 date was obtained from the 1900 census. It may be that I erred. A recheck of the 1900 census is needed.

Lee Russell marks an 'X' through the 'AFT 1899' on my FGS dated 28Oc1993. Lee Russell writes for Jennie Alvey, 'age 98 Spouse Mark Beall daughter Helen Chisman Jackson' - xv Nov MCMXCIII

Based on the information from Lee Russell I advance the hypothesis that Jennie Alvey was married twice. An alternate hypothesis is Jennie Alvey was married once and Helen Chisman Jackson was married twice.

Jennie's husbands: 1) Arthur Beall

In another place, Lee Russell identifies Jennie's aunt, Eliza Sendall Alvey, to be 'Aunt Jen.' - xv Nov MCMXCIII

In another place, Lee Russell writes 9 8 beside Jennie Alvey's name 1993

Could Jennie Alvey be 98 in 1993? If that is so, the her Dec 1886 birth date (as found on the 1900 Census) is wrong. 1896 + 98 = 1993. If she were born Dec 1896, then she would be the twin of Harry R. Alvey for he too was born in Dec1896. Was she already 98 when Lee Russell wrote 15N1993 or will Jennie turn 98 in Dec. 1993?

Lee Russell writes, 'age 99 Jennie Alvey Dec 1894 - married Arthur Beall' - xi Jan MCMXCIV.

So there is a discrepency between the 1900 census year of birth = 1896 & the year of birth = 1894 given by Lee Russell.

Lee Russell writes, 'Jennie 1894 - still living - son died infancy daughter - Helen Beall - daughter of Jennie & Arthur Beall 1st husband - Harold Chisman ch - Marilyn Nelson - Jimmy Chisman 2. Jackson - died - husband of Marilyn. mr.Jackson died - few years ago' - xi Jan MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, 'Mabel & Jennie were tall. Black hair.' - xi Jan MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, 'Jennie 1894 (still living only one left in the family)' - xi Jan MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, 'Jennie Alvey Beall married Arthur Beall they lost a baby boy named Mark their daughter Helen Beall married 1st husband Harold Chisman 2. husband Wm Jackson.' - xi Jan MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, 'Jennie Beall was born 1894 - she turned 99 in Dec 1993 - and she will be 100 in Dec. her health is poor. Right up until a year ago, she was still doing her own cooking etc. - now her daughter, who lived in back partof house - brings her meals to her mother Jennie. Jennie let me get pictures of the pictures she had of family with John Fox when came to Muncie to visit relatives.' - xi Jan MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, 'Jennie was tall, dark, nice -' - xi Jan MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, 'Jennie Beall is still living - nearly (1894) 100 - She is last survivor in George Washington Alvey family.' - xix Oct MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, '...Jennie Alvey Beall just celebrated her #100 birthday Dec 14/1994' - xxvii Dec MCMXCIV

Lee Russell writes, 'The 103 year old Jennie Grace Beall died about 2 weeks before Christmas and 10 days later her grandson Jimmy, age 54, died unexpectedly - he has heart trouble etc., 2 daughters and a Vietnam veteran (which I did notknow until I saw it in the paper. He died 22 Dec 95 on Friday - Jennie funeral was day before the ice storm hit Wed.' - xxviii Dec MCMXCV

Note, the 12th of Dec was on Tue., the 13th was on Wed. 22 - 10 = 12.
