Larry Johnson, age 62, of Ortonville, died Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Ortonville Hospital.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. at the Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank with Rev. Dr. DeVern Schwenn officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the time of service. Burial will be held at a later date in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Larry Lee Johnson was born on March 6, 1954, in Milbank, SD, to Gordon R. and Katherine O. (Willms) Johnson. He was baptized in 1954 and confirmed in 1968, both at American Lutheran Church in Milbank. Larry attended school in Milbank, graduating from Milbank High School with the class of 1972. He then furthered his education by attending Mitchell Vo-Tech in Mitchell, SD.
Larry worked in the oil fields of Wyoming and North Dakota for many years. He also worked at John Morrell & Co. in Sioux Falls, SD. Larry then moved to Omaha, NE, where he worked as a boiler system repairman at several area hospitals until his health began to fail. Most recently Larry resided in Ortonville, MN, but was enthusiastic about moving to Milbank where he was in the process of buying a house. He had planned to start keeping bees on the family farm and was busy learning everything he could about beekeeping and producing honey. Larry's family is grateful that he passed at a time when he was happy.
Larry is survived by his sons: Bradley Scott Johnson (fiancé, Billie Miner) of Tripp, SD and Quenten James (Wendy) Johnson of Summerset, SD; two grandchildren: Hannah and Carter Johnson; father, Gordon R. Johnson of Milbank, SD; siblings: Debbi (Bob) Higginbotham of Huntsville, AL; Bob Johnson (special friend, Teresa Purcell) of Milbank, SD; Sharon (Jon) Wollman of Sioux Falls, SD; Janene (Mark) Francis of Elkhart Lake, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Johnson.
Larry married Robin Jayne Simpson [MRIN: 63919], daughter of Roy Kieth Simpson and Rhodora Mae Colvin, on 22 Sep 1973 in Milbank, Grant County, South Dakota, USA. The marriage ended in divorce.
