Elmer changed his name from Carl Elmer to Elmer Carl after World War I. He came to Grant County with his parents from Lakefield, MN in March 1907. He farmed the homestead after his father died. In 1940, Elmer and Bertina purchased a farm near Milbank in Grant Co and they remained there until their deaths. Elmer and Bertina enjoyed going to Texas for the winter for 13 years.
