Darell M. Pike, 77, of Nora Springs, formerly of Plymouth, died October 25, 2007 at the Nora Springs Care Center due to liver problems and two recent hip fractures. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday (October 29, 2007) at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with Mr. Robert Orr of Aplington, IA officiating. Interment will be in Rock Falls Cemetery with Veterans Rites performed by the Mason City Memorial Association. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday (October 28, 2007) at Major Erickson Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Memorials may be given to the Darell M. Pike Memorial Fund.

Darell was born to Harold and Pearl (Naber) Pike at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa on November 12, 1929. The family moved to a farm in the Osage area where Darell attended country school until attending and graduating from Plymouth High School in 1947. After graduating, Darell worked for various farmers and also the Sugar Beet Plant and Armours (Deckers). In January 1951, Darell went into basic training for the United States Army in Kansas.

On June 9, 1951 Darell was united in marriage to Dolores Ione Preuss in Fairbault, MN. They lived in Kansas and eventually California before moving to Mason City following Darell's discharge from the Army in 1953. The couple moved to acreage between Plymouth and Rock Falls in 1954 and Darrell returned to work at Armour's until his retirement.

Darell and Dolores had four children; Nancy, Alan, Daniel and Cindy. He accepted the Lord as his personal savior November 28, 1962. Dolores passed away January 1, 1997. He stayed on the farm that they shared until the fall of 1999 when he moved to the Ponderosa trailer court in Nora Springs. Darell enjoyed many things including walking, riding his bike and dancing. He also enjoyed helping his sons farm, playing cards with the guys at the Rock Falls elevator and watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. He remained very active until his liver disease progressed and weakened his body. Darell enjoyed being with his family and friends.

He is survived, his children, Nancy (Bill) Kalkbrenner of Manchester, IA, Alan Pike of Plymouth, Danny (Amy) Pike of Mason City, and Cindy (Phil) Lindsay of Nora Springs; grandchildren Jessica ( Jake) Prazak, of Rock Falls , Julie Kalkbrenner of Reno Nevada, Tracie Kalkbrenner of Pittsburgh PA, Nathan (Katie) Lindsay of Hilbert WI, Erin (Jason) Crum of Nora Springs , Travis Pike of Winthrop IA, Derek Pike of Ames IA and Rachel and Allison Pike of Mason City; great grandchildren, Preston and Paige Prazak, and Carter Crum; his special friend, Norma Helin; brothers, Dean (Anna) Pike of Houston TX, Roy (Shirley) Pike of Marion IA, Loy Pike of Mason City, and Paul (Emily) Pike of Ocala FL; sisters, Sharon (Lynn) Uhlenlopp of Cedar Falls, Patsy (John) Crowe of Surrey British Colombia, and Shannon (Tom) Miller of Ocala Florida; mother-in-law, Cora Preuss of Fairbault MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores in 1997 and father-in-law.
