Melvin Janes, 63, Marshalltown

Melvin :Jack" Janes, 63, Marshalltown, formerly of Williams, died March 24, 1994, at Marshalltown Hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery, east of Kamrar. Graveside military services will be conducted by American Legion Post 191. Visitation is after 9 a.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral Home until time of service.

Melvin Monroe Janes, son of Ollie and Anna (Naber) Janes, was born March 24, 1931 at Williams. He attended rural school near Williams.

In 1951, he married Eleanor Rhunke at Alden. The couple resided in the Williams/Alden/Iowa Falls areas and were later divorced. He farmed worked at Frigidaire, was a trucker and also worked at the turkey plant in Ellsworth. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-56 in the infantry at Hawaii. He moved to Duncombe in 1984.

On May 15, 1985, he married Lucille Brockman at Marshalltown. In 1990, he moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kimberly Janes of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Lori Janes of Honolulu, Hawaii; step-daughters, Rhonda and Angela Brockman, both of Duncombe; grandchildren, Cherri, Michael, Nicole and Chelsea; sisters, Marge Tjarks of Iowa Falls, Ruth Silbest of Radcliffe and Ilene "Butch" Draper of Webster City; brother, Merlin Janes of Alden; mother, Anna of Webster City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans of Marshalltown."

Note: The truce for the Korea War was signed before the years of service 1955 to 1956 given in his obituary. This is what is writen on his military plaque: "MELVIN M JANES PVT US ARMY KOREA MARCH 24 1931 MARCH 24 1994 [a cross]"
