Karl J. Watne, 70, of Galt, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at his home following a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday January 7, 2011 at the Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsburg, Iowa with Pastor Mike Carmody officiating. Interment will follow at the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery, Holmes, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Karl was born May 11, 1940, the son of Olaf and Bernice (Hovland) Watne, in Clarion, IA. He was united in marriage to Judy Schaa on August 26, 1961. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Galt.

His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was of central importance in his life. On Sunday afternoon, he stepped onto the shores of eternity where he met his Savior face to face.

He loved his family and considered time spent with them one of his greatest joys. Family gatherings and enjoying a fantastic meal together were great fun for him. He was especially fond of vacationing with his wife, Judy, in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. He found great pleasure in the simple, but precious, things in life.

Karl farmed with his brothers, Tom, Knute, and Stan, near Galt for nearly 50 years. He loved everything about farming, but mostly that he had the opportunity to do so with his brothers. He was a long-time seed corn dealer, serving producers in Wright County.

Those thankful for having shared in Karl's life include his wife of 49 years, Judy, children Kim (Rick) Lee, Steve (Lana) Watne, Doug (Kristin) Watne, one sister, Miriam (Dave) Britt, four brothers, Sam (Lois) Watne, Tom (Jan) Watne, Knute (Etter) Watne, Stan (Pam) Watne, nine grandchildren, one great grandson, one foster daughter Tuyet (Le) Vu, three foster grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Watne was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Ruth at birth, and one brother Pete.
