BURT - A funeral Mass for Thomas J. Lichter, 61, of Burt, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at St Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Thomas Joseph Lichter was born Dec. 19, 1949, in Algona, the youngest of four children of Dr. Magnus I. and Loretta E. (Howie) Lichter. He grew up near Burt, graduating from Burt High School in 1968. Tom then attended South Dakota StateUniversity and Iowa Lakes Community College, and he honorably served in the Iow Army National Guard from 1970 until 1976.

On June 24, 1972, he married Margaret Stecker at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. They focused their lives around their five children, and as parents, they were very proud of everything that their children achieved.

Tom farmed west of Burt with his brother Ray until the fall of 2007. He owned and operated NOrthern Shooters Supply from 1973 until present, and he was a rural carrier associate since 2001 with the West Bend and Burt Post Offices.

Tom had a special love for his wife, his children, and his two grandchildren, one that will never be matched. He had a great passion for the outdoors and hunting. Tom served on many conservation committees. He served on the Burt SchoolBoard of Education. He also was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Algona Rifle and Pistol Club, and he enjoyed trap shooting and sporting clays. He served on the K & H Co-op Oil Company board ofdirectors for the past 10 years, was a member of the Burt American Legion, and atted St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate Margaret Lichter of Burt; four children, Michael Thomas Lichter and wife, Sandra, of Park Rapids, Minn.; Megan Heather Curry and hisband Maurice Curry of Johnston; Erin Kaye LIchter of Lincoln,Neb., and her twin sister, Second Lieutenant Stephanie Joy Wilson and her husband First Lieutenant Brian Wilson of Crestview, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Matthew Thomas and Macie Loretta Lichter of Park Rapids, Minn. He is also survivedby two sisters and a brother: Ann Garman (Jerry) of Dallas, Texas; Lois Chang of Kailua, Hawaii, and Raymond Lichter (Cheryl) of Burt; eight brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Beverly Andersen (Maurice) of Sarasota, Fla.; Marlys Randick(Robert) of Oakland, Calif.; Harlen Stecker of Isanti, Minn.; Bruce Stecker (Joyce) of Buffalo, Minn.; Lamont Stecker; Virginia Axtell (Stanley) of Greely, Colo.; Dean Stecker (Linda) of Knoxville; and Jocelyn Stecker of Edina, Minn.; andmany nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Heather Nicole Lichter on May 1, 1981; his father, Dr. Magnus Lichter on May 8, 1986; his mother Loretta Lichter on July 7, 2000; his parents-in-law, Henry Stecker on July 3, 1988, Margaret Steckeron May 31, 2002; and his niece, Sharlene Garman on July 2, 1985.
