"Fred Waalkes

Funeral services for Fred Waalkes of Aplington were held Monday, September 13, at 10:30. a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Aplington. He has passed away September 9, 1982.

Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Aplington with Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Chapel of Aplington in charge of arrangements. Before his retirement he was in the hatchery business.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lillian (Jutting) Waalkes of Aplington, a former Buffalo Center resident; and two sisters."

Note: Fred Waalkes of 726 Parrott Street, Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Rev. Frederick & Barbara Loetscher Waalkes in Hastings, Nebraska. He suffered a heart attack late Thursday afternoon, Sept 9, 1982, while he was at work painting ahome in Dumont, Iowa. He died a short time later. Fred lived in many communities in the midwest as a young boy, since his fathaer was a Presbuterian Minister and served many congregations. Fred graduated from Parkersburg High School and attended college in Chicago, Illimois. He wasemployed in the art daepartment of Marshall Field in Chicago. The couple, Fred and Lillian, always oived at their present home in Aplingon, Iowa. He attended the First Reformed Church in Aplington, Iowa. Fred was the owner and operator of the hatchery in Aplington, Iowa, until 1965, however he continued to be a painter and decorator.
