"Lieutenant Commander John A. Maher U.S.N.R-retired died on December 3, 2015 -- his 85th birthday -- in Decatur, Georgia. He and his bride, Joan Thérèse Dawley, both Brooklyn natives, wed there in 1954. John is survived by Joan, their five children, and seven beloved grandchildren.

Excluding Korean War naval service, John ushered at Ebbets Field from 1948 through the Dodgers' 1957 departure. Earning degrees from the University of Notre Dame and N.Y.U. Law, Mr. Maher was also a Food Law Fellow at N.Y.U. He then practiced law on Wall Street and in midtown Manhattan. When the late Winton (Red) Blount became Postmaster General, Maher was actively recruited as vice president-law and public affairs at Blount, Inc. in Montgomery, Alabama. He help convert then closely-held Blount, Inc.'s heavy construction interests to being publicly-held. In 1971, John turned to full-time teaching at The Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, PA, where he coached a national championship appellate moot court team. Maher became the law school's 8th dean in 1989. A highly distinguished, honored, and well published lawyer, Maher was active in many legal organizations including various Bar Associations and Cambridge University's annual Symposia on International Economic Crime. Maher was also Atlantic Liberty Savings, F.A., in Brooklyn, Board Chairman for 5 years.

Maher's public service included President Lyndon Johnson's Consumer Affairs Committee, a Pennsylvania Securities Commissionership, and Training Officer of two successive national champion Naval Reserve units.
