LAYMAN, Robert Gerald Age 78 Of Cocoa, FL Formerly of Portage

Robert passed away April 28, 2007 at Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge, FL following a lengthy illness. Robert was born August 17, 1928 in Battle Creek, MI, the only child of Tom and Faye Layman. The family eventually settled in the Grand Haven, MI area where he met his loving wife of 53 years, the former Edith Damvelt, who he affectionately called "mouse". Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran. An electrician by trade, he worked for many years at Schuster Electric. Prior to retiring in Florida, Robert enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter. Before having children, he and Edith often hunted together. With the children, they enjoyed bowling and took many camping trips. Surviving besides his wife, Edith, are his daughter, Debbie (Mark) Mitchell of Port St. John, FL; two sons, Scott (Rebecca) Layman of Mattawan, MI and Tom (Darcy) Layman of Marlette, MI; five grandsons, Mark and Bobby Neeb, Carl and Chris Layman and Nick Layman; two granddaughters, Erin Neeb and Lindsey Layman; and one great grandson, Bryce Murphy; sister-in-law, Mary (Jamie) Giangrande; three brothers-in-law, Sonny (Barb) Damvelt, John (Marilyn) Damvelt and Dan (Norma) Damvelt; several nieces, nephews and special friends, Jack and Carol Foster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Faye; his father-in-law, Marine Damvelt and his mother-in- law, Drusella Damvelt. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. No services will be held.
