"Alwood Carol Ora Alwood, age 89, born December 23, 1927, died March 3, 2017. Born in Columbus, Ohio, most recently resided in Havertown, PA with daughter Darlene. Preceded in death by husband William Alwood and son David Alwood. Survived by daughters, Dianna (Willie) Hafler, Darlene (Perry) Silverberg; son, Douglas (Debbie) Alwood; grandsons, Chad, Evan, David, Justin, Nathan and Collin; granddaughters, Evie and Nicole; 19 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Strain; nieces and nephews. Carol was a graduate of North High School. She and her husband Bill were co-owners of Alwood Florist. She was an active member of TWIG 47 for many years. Carol took much pride in decorating her home especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. She and Bill were among the original members of the early Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Columbus. She truly enjoyed her 50th wedding anniversary with Bill in Paradise Island. She loved Caribbean cruises, surfing the web on her Ipad, keeping up with her grandchildren on Facebook and cheering The Ohio State Buckeyes football team. Her affectionate nicknames were "Big Red" and "Ducky" and her kids knew that dinner was at 6 p.m. sharp. Family receives friends from 10 a.m.-12 noon at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME, 450 W. Olentangy Rd., Powell, Ohio 43065, followed by service there and interment at Union Cemetery, 3349 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43202.
