He was the son of John Albert and Jennie Douglas (Sanders) Gemmell. He received his early education in local Martinville schools. He came to the United States in 1927 and attended The Railway Educational Fireman's School and graduated in 1928. Mrs. Gemmell died Dec. 28, 1991.farm in Southington. He retired from farming in 1974. He continued work as a security guard at Allied Control for several years and finally retired in 1979 from J.F.K. Junior High School in Southington. He and his wife retired to Brandon in 1979, moving there from Waterbury, Conn.and Dale Gemmell, both of Southington, Kenneth Gemmell of Bennington and Morris Gemmell of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by five brothers, Lawrence, James, Wallace, Thomas, Kenneth and Stewart Gemmell; and one sister, Muriel Lundenberg.ice will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor, will officiate.
