My parents came to Australia because Australia did a lot of advertising back in those days, it needed people. Come to the land of milk and honey, the ads said. Dad was a wool classer, so he thought that because the sheep production here was so great, he'd have no difficulty in making a better life for his family. You will know that things were not quite so rosy in Europe during those post war years. So he loaded us all onto the ship, and off we went. He even brought his knitting machine. For some reasons he never got a job in the wool industry, mainly the migrants were all located in towns and cities whilst the sheep stations were (and still are) located in remote regions. So he worked as a labourer for the electricity commission. They didn't exactly find the streets here flowing with milk and honey, but for all that, I don't think they ever regretted coming to Australia. They, and all their children, prospered. Certainly I'm glad we live here, the economy is not too bad. We live about mid way on the east coast, near the Queensland-New South Wales border. The weather is superb, it is never cold, and the Pacific Ocean along with marvellous surfing beaches is only a few minutes away.
