    Albert maakte als burger (employe bij de Bataafse Petroleum Maatschappij BPM) deel uit van de vernietigingsploeg van de olieinstallaties. Voor de Japanners Borneo in handen kregen moesten zij de olievelden bij Balikpapan verwoesten. Hierna trokken zij door het oerwoud naar Tjandong, waar zij door vliegtuigen opgepikt zouden worden. Toen zij daar aankwamen, na een barre tocht, bleek Tjandong al in handen van de Japanners en moesten zij opnieuw het oerwoud intrekken.
    Albert overleed vervolgens aan bloedvergiftiging.
