    Adriaan ging net als zijn broer Albertus in de handel. In 1873 overleed het meisje waarmee Adriaan zou trouwen. Haar naam is niet bewaard gebleven. Jannetje was verloofd met Barend (broer van Adriaan) toen hij verdronk. Adriaan en Jannetje besloten met elkaar te trouwen.
    Met steun van vader Rokus begonnen zij een manufacturenzaak in Antwerpen. Hij verkocht o.a. kussens en gordijnen en had een stofferingsatelier. Adriaan deed veel aan liefdadigheid en zat in verschillende besturen in Middelburg.

    Jannetje viel, toen zij hoogzwanger was, van de trap; daarop werd Albert geboren maar er waren complicaties. Een week later stierf Jannetje.
    Adriaan wilde gecremeerd worden; dat was in die tijd niet mogelijk, daarom is hij in Mainz gecremeerd.

    Na de dood van Adriaan wilde Emerance trouwen met zijn broer Albert, die in dat jaar ook net weduwnaar was geworden. Hij was haar jeugdliefde. Voor het huwelijk plaats kon vinden, overleed Albertus (1916).
