    Albertus werkte bij zijn vader in de graanhandel. Hij nam in 1869 de zaak van zijn ouders over. Albertus verlegde de handel in graan naar peulvruchten en zaden (vn. koolzaad en lijnzaad) en legde zich bovendien toe op export.

    Na het overlijden van zijn vader Jan in 1880, stichtte Albertus de Middelburgsche Broodfabriek. In 1883 werd dit een feit, samen met mede-vennoot A. de Koster uit Leiden werd de firma Jeronimus en Compagnie opgericht. Toen de heer Koster enkele jaren later de mjeelfabriek De Sleutels in Leiden stichtte onder de naam Koster en Co. werd de firma Jeronimus en co. in algemeen overleg weer ontbonden.
    In 1894 werd nog in exploitatie genomen de Goudse Broodfabriek, maar die werd in de eerste jaren van de 20ste eeuw weer geliquideerd.
    In 1894 werd ook de olieslagerij Luyk van de firma Spoors en Sprenger overgenomen, waarvoor hij samen met J.B.A. van den Bergh de firma Jeronimus & van den Bergh in Middelburg oprichtte. De vennootschap werd in 1903 ontbonden en Albertus liet de firma verder gaan als Jeronimus en Van den Bergh.
    In 1911 trad Albertus terug uit de zaken; omdat zijn huwelijk kinderloos bleef werden de zaken voortgezet door zijn neefje Albertus jr. die al enige jaren bij hem werkzaam was.
