    Jan Abramsz Groot alias Jan Abrahamsz Luyt. Hij was geboren op de Purmer watermolen nr. 17, waar zijn vader als molenaar was aangesteld. Jan werd molenaar op watermolen nr.9 van de Purmer polder van 30/1/1749 tot zijn dood. Na zijn dood worden de molenaarswerkzaamheden op die molen overgenomen door zijn zoon Klaas Jansz Groot (Luijt). Jan Abrahamz was op de molen gekomen na het overlijden op in januari 1749 van Pieter Adriaansz Slikpot.
    In 1783 stellen Jan en zijn echtgenote hun testament op voor notaris Cornelis Boterkoper (ONA, MD 3557) te Monnickendam. In dit testament worden de vier kinderen van Jan Abramsz en Lijsbet Raat vermeld (waaruit de conclusie kan worden getrokken dat een kind inmiddels is overleden, zeer waarschijnlijk was dat Antje Jans), en de zes kinderen van dochter Antje Jans (geboren 1751) uit haar huwelijk met Dirk Bakker. Bijgevoegd aan dit testament is een opmeriing dat de Monnickendammer weeskamer voor de zes kinderen van Antje zou zorgen, met de specifieke instructie dat onder geen beding Dirk Bakker als voogd over zijn zes kinderen mag worden aangesteld.
    Jan Abrahams is begraven in de gereformeerde kerk van Monnickendam - impost op begraven was zeer hoog voor een molenaar: dfl 16,6,-!

    Molen nr. 9 was de zgn. Middenmolen die in de 3e molengang onder Monnickendam stond. Op bovenmolen nr. 8 maalde ten tijde van Jan Abramsz Jan Cornelisz Bruijn (die werd opgevolgd door zijn zoon Cornelis Jansz Bruijn), terwijl op ondermolen nr. 10 ene Jan Paulusz als watermolenaar was aangesteld (zeker tot 1766 toen hij nog werd genoemd). Broer Pieter Abrahamsz Groot was ook watermolenaar in de Purmer, maar dan op de 2e molengang onder Edam.
