Woonde aan de Houtmarkt te Leiden.

Net als vader Jacob werd hij lakenkoopman, maar zijn handel ging failliet. Daarna werd hij actief in diverse gilden als bestuurder. Naast zijn werk schreef hij, als rechtgeaarde gegoede burger van zijn tijd, poëzie en bekwaamde hij zich in de calligrafie. Zijn zwierige schoonschrijfkunst past hij met name toe op werken van glas, waarvan het Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam er nog zoမn 25 bewaart.
