<p><span>He was born Hendrik Jakobsma in April 1871 in the country village of Oudega, municipality Smallingerland, located in the eastern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, son of Hattum Klazes Jakobsma (54 years old, laborer) and Iebeltje Posthuma.</span><br /><br /><span>On February 15, 1882 Hendrik Jacobsma departed with his parents and -at least- six siblings from municipality Smallingerland for North America.</span><br /><br /><span>In 1885 Hendrik Jacobsma (15 years old, born in the Netherlands) was living in Holland Township, Sioux County, located in the northwestern part of Iowa.</span><br /><br /><span>On December 10, 1896 farmer Henry Jacobsma married in Orange City at the age of 25 years the eight years younger Justina Maria Van Steenwyk, who had Dutch parents too. Orange City is the seat of Sioux County, located in the northwestern part of Iowa. The city was founded in 1870 by Dutch settlers from Pella, Iowa looking for cheaper and better land. Named after William of Orange, it is best known for its Dutch background, which it celebrates with an annual Tulip Festival for 3 days every May. Many of the city's buildings are faced with Dutcharchitectural fronts.</span><br /><br /><span>On March 30, 1897 their daughter Etta Jacobsma was born in Orange City, and on June 24, 1899 son Horton in the village of Sioux Center, Sioux County Iowa. Sioux Center is located about five miles northwest of Orange City and is notable too for its Dutch heritage, and agribusiness.</span><br /><br /><span>In June 1900 Henry Jacobsma (26 years old, born in April 1874 in Holland, immigrated in 1882, farmer), his wife Justina (21, August 1879, Iowa, mother of two living children) and their children Etta (3, March 1897, Iowa) and Horton (1, June 1899, Iowa) were living on a rented farm in the village of Sioux Center, West Branch Township, Sioux County, Iowa. </span><br /><br /><span>In May 1910 Henry Jacobsma (38, immigrated in 1882, farmer), his wife Josie (30, mother of4 living children), their children Etta (13), Horton (10), Bell (9, Iowa) and </span><br /><span>Marietta (2, Iowa) were living on their own farm in the town of Sioux Center, West Branch Township, Sioux County, Iowa.</span><br /><br /><span>In January 1920 Henry Jacobsma (48, immigrated in 1882, no occupation), his wife Justina M. (40, farm laborer on home farm), their children, Horton(20), Belle (19), Maretta (12), Aben (4, Iowa) and Henry (2, Iowa) were living on their own farm in still West Branch Township, Sioux County, Iowa.</span><br /><br /><span>In May 1930 Henry Jacobsma (59, immigrated in 1882, farmer), his wife Justina (50), their children Marietta (22, farm laborer), Aben (14, farm laborer) and Henry (12) were living on their own farm in still West Branch Township, Sioux County, Iowa.</span><br /><br /><span>In April 1940 Henry Jacobsma (68, no occupation), his wife Stena (62), and their son Henry (22, farming) were living on their own farm, worth $1500, in Horton Township, Osceola County, located in the northwestern part of Iowa. They lived in 1935 on a farm in Sioux County, Iowa.</span><br /><br /><span>Henry Jacobsma died in October 1946 at the age of 75 years in the small cityof Ocheyedan, Osceola County, Iowa. His widow Justina died in July 1858 at the age of 79 years in the small city of Sanborn, O'Brien County, located in the northwestern part of Iowa too.</span><br /><br /><span&;gt;Bio was provided in May 2017 by Peter Hakze, Netherlands, FAG #47703868.</span><br /><br /><br /><span>OBITUARY</span><br /><br /><span>Henry Jacobsma, Sr., 76, a former O.C. resident died at his home at Ocheyedan, Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 22. </span><br /&;gt;<br /><span>Mr. Jacobsma was well known here, the family having lived on a farm 2 1/2 miles west of Orange City until they moved to Ocheyedan 7 years ago. </span><br /><br /><span>Surviving are his wife, 3 daughters and 3 sons: Etta (Mrs. Dick Vink) of Doon; Marietta (Mrs. Henry Van Oort) of Middleburg and Belle (Mrs. Joe Gevering) residing in Michigan; Horton Jacobsma of Sibley; Aben Jacobsma ofSanborn and Henry at home. Also surviving is a brother, Simon Jacobsma of Sibley. </span><br /><br /><span>Funeral services at the Jacobsma home were held Friday forenoon and in the First Christian Ref. Church of Orange City, Iowa in the afternoon. Rev. R. Bronkema officiated. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.</span><br /><br /><span>Sioux Center News 1946-11-07.</span></p>
