Howard S. Smedshammer, 79, West Fargo, ND passed away at Sanford Hospital in Fargo on October 22, 2017. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family. Howard was born in Lisbon, ND on December 11, 1937. He was the son of Henry and Signe (Jensen) Smedshammer. Howard attended Enderlin High School, joined the Navy in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands serving in the Construction Battalion. In 1959, Howard met the love of his life Harriet Lindemann. They were married on August 5, 1961 and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Howard was a member of Olivet Lutheran since 1962. Howard enjoyed auto racing, snowmobiling, pool, car shows, playing cards, working on small engines and spending time at the lake with his family. He worked in the automotive field retiring as a heavyduty salesman from CATCO in 2000. After retiring, he worked part time at Adesa Auto Auction. He is survived by his wife Harriet, sons Todd (Marcia), of Farmington, MNTyler (Annette), of Cloquet, MN, Troy (April), of West Fargo and Tangela (Tony) Buzick, of Florence, KY. Grandchildren: Tanner (Alli), Styve, Travis (Breanna), Alex, Brandon and Blake Smedshammer, Paige, Preston and Brea Buzick. Great-Grandchildren: Braiden, Tucker and Tilly Smedshammer. He is also survived by one sister Grace (Emil) Dunham, of Detroit Lakes, MN and two brothers: Don (Reba), of Lake St. Louis, MO and Ron (Diane), of Detroit Lakes, MN. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother and sisters Stella, Ruby, Marlys and Hazel (Truman) Stenjhem. Visitation: Thursday, October 26th from 5 – 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral service: Friday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo with visitation one hour prior. Burial: Pontiac Cemetery, Enderlin, ND.
