    Na het precedent dat ontstaan was door de volkstelling, gehouden in 1891, maakte deze volkstelling gebruik van civiele gemeentes en niet van parochies als de volkstelling districten voor plattelands gebieden in Noorwegen. De volkstelling van 1900 ging door met het uitbreiden van de informatie over woon regelingen maar is verder vrijwel gelijk, wat verzamelde informatie betreft, aan de eerdere Noorse volkstelling van 1891. Het is van belang op te merken dat de meeste mensen, die opgesomd worden in deze volkstelling, geen volledige geboortedatum hebben, (maar alleen een geboortejaar) omdat volledige geboortedatums voor personen ouder dan 2 jaar, niet verzameld werden. De reden voor de verandering van de individuele formulieren van de volkstelling van 1891 naar de huishoudens lijsten, die in 1900 gebruikt werden was het gebruiken van de Herman Hollerith Tabelleer Machine. Als eerste met veel succes gebruikt in de VS Federale volkstelling van 1890, adopteerden veel andere landen, waaronder Noorwegen, de technologie voor hun eigen volkstellingen. Informatie werd van de volkstelling documenten overgebracht naar ponskaarten, die daarna door de tabelleer machines gelezen werden en zo de verwerkingstijd, vroeger door ambtenaren gedaan, aanzienlijk verkortte. Gemeentenamen en grenzen zijn na het houden van de volkstelling aanzienlijk veranderd. The namen van gemeentes in deze index kunnen anders gespeld zijn en kunnen andere grenzen hebben dan de huidige gemeentes. Gedetailleerde informatie over gemeentewijzigingen kunnen gevonden worden in de Nationale Archieven van Noorwegen. Verdere informatie, die niet in de index staat, zoals beroep, kan in de digitale images gevonden worden. Ongeveer 17% van de records in deze index zijn nog niet gerelateerd aan hun digitale image van de huishoudens. Zoeken naar een record in de index zonder een bijbehorend image image zal de index tonen en de andere personen in het huishouden laten zien, maar een image zal in dit geval niet getoond worden op de persoonspagina. Hoewel formulieren van de volkstelling van 1900 goed gearchiveerd en bewaard werden, zijn de volgende tekortkomingen in het originele materiaal bekend: Bærum district in Akershus (Vestre Bærum parochie, 3,219 woonachtige personen), Risør handelscentrum in Aust-Agder (twee van de drie gebieden, 2,249 woonachtige personen), Sirdal district in Vest-Agder (alle gebieden, 1,644 woonachtige personen), Skien handelscentrum in Telemark (delen van de gebieden o1-29 en alle of gebieden30-35, ongeveer 3,000 woonachtige personen), Tysnes district in Hordaland (3,589 woonachtige personen).
