Oluf g.Mellingen kjøpte seg gård på Finnvollan og busatte seg der bla. hans morfar hadde gård og flere av hans tanter og onkler bodde.

 

Etter at han var gift og hadde flere barn, gikk han skogskolen og arbeidet som skogvokter i statens Skoger på Namsskogan. Ingeniør Johan Støre hari sin bok om Grong Grubers saga omtalt Oluf og Peggy fra Finnvollan, likeså Ingeborg og Olivia. Stedet ble faktisk et sentrum for all anleggsdrift for Grong gruber. Der ble det landhandel og posthus som fungerte i lang tid etter at anleggsvirksomheten var stanset. Det ble et naturlig stoppested for all trafikk fra Røyrvik som gikk over Steinfjellet, likesom rutetrafikken i begge retninger hadde sitt stoppested der. Stedet som er blitt omtalt som "Mellingsgården på Finnvollan" bleovertatt og drevet av søsknene Olivia, Ingeborg og Johan Mellingen som overdro eiendommen til sin brorsønn Knut O. Mellingen
