Notes about Jacob Rengers

Jacob Rengers, farmer on the farm 'Coen (d) ersheem' in 't Zandt (Grn), was born around 1690 and died in 1741. Jacob was about 51 years old. He succeeded his father-in-law Egge Walles at Coenersheem. Jacob Rengers (1690-1741) is also referred to as a 'shepherd'. In his time (around 1740) he was already a Mennonite teacher in Zijldijk. Tiete Popkes, Jacob Tietes' father, worked as a lay preacher and pastor in Zijldijk around 1767, but he was therefore not the first pastor there. The admonition in Zijldijk was built in 1772, for this there was already an admonition from around 1700 and it was probably located at or near the place where the new one was being built.
