Notes about William Anthony SKIRVING

MR. W. A. SKIRVING.
The death occurred ort Friday of Mr.
William Anthony Sklrvlng at his resi-
dence, Harbourne, Elizabeth Town. He
was a son of the late Mr. Andrew Sklr-
vlng, of Fairbank, Cressy, and was C5
years of age. He married the second
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
liam Pitt, Bishopsbourne, and took up
farming at Longford. Coming to Har-
bourne from there, he remained for 28
years. Mr. Skirving was a widely-known
and esteemed resident of the Deloraine
district. Ile was a Justice of the peace,
and a member of the Deloraine Muni-
cipal Council for many years, and at one
time Warden. He was a commltteeman
of the Deloraine Turf Club anuT^Iean
der Racing Club, and chairman of the
Elizabeth Town Hall Committee. He
leaves a wife, three sons, Messrs. W. A.
Sklrvlng (Sassafras), N. J. Sklrvlng
(Queensland), and A. J. Sklrvlng (Eliza-
beth Town), and five daughters, Sister C.
J. Sklrvlng and Sister K. Skirving, of
the staff of the Launceston Public Hos-
pital, Mrs. J. Wyatt (Kindred), Misses M
Sklrvlng (Sisters Creek) and R. Skirving
(Elizabeth Town).
The funeral took place yesterday
afternoon in the Church of England
section of the Deloraine Cemetery In
the presence of a large and represénta-
me gathering. The service at the grave-
side was read by the Rev. F. H. Lansdell,
assisted by Mr. Mills (Presbyterian).
The chief mourners were the three sons,
and Messrs. G. Sklrvlng (Sassafras), J.
Sklrvlng (Winkleigh), brothers; J.
Wyatt, son-in-law, Peter and Bruce
Skirving, Donald and Bruce Wyatt,
grandsons; L., K., A" and A. Skirving,
C., B., and G. Stokes, nephews. The
casket bearers were Messrs. G. Stokes,
IC, A, and A. Sklrvlng; pall-bearers,
Messrs. J. D. Best, W. G. Fitzpatrick, H.
Gilbert, and P. J. Fleming, representing
the Meander Racing Club; E. T. Hing-
ston (Warden), J. Griffin, P. C. Best, N.
Mellor, W. Webb, and D. O'Meara, repre-
senting the council. Among the many
wreaths were those from the Parents'
Association, Sisters Creek State School,
Meander Racing Club, Herd and Co.,
Elizabeth Town Hall Committee, teach-
ers and, scholars Rubicon State School,
nursing staff of the Launceston Public
Hospital, and Nurses' Christian move-
ment. The funeral arrangements were
