Death Notice - Maryborough Chronicle dated Monday, May 11, 1925:
HAMMANT - On May 9, 1925, at the Maryborough Hospital, Walter George Hammant, eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Richard Hammant, of March Street, Maryborough; aged 60 years.

Mr Walter George Hammant, a well known resident of Maryborough, passed peacefully away at the Maryborough Hospital at midday on Saturday at the age of 60 years. Deceased was born at Beenleigh, Brisbane district, and was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs R. Hammant, of March Street, Maryborough, having been a resident of Maryborough for about 56 years. He had not enjoyed good health for some time. The late Mr Hammant was a grocer by trade, having served his time with Mr D. B. Hunter, and in the early days of Pialba managed a store for the late Mr William Southerden. He was also at one time in charge of the mail coach from Maryborough to Pialba. Later he served at his trade with Mr Alex Campbell, grocer. He is survived by one brother, Mr Alfred Hammant, of Biggenden, and two sisters - Mrs A. H. Charteris and Mrs A. Thefs, both of Maryborough. The funeral will take place from the Congregational Church, Alice Street, this morning at 10.30 o'clock and will be of a private nature.Source 3
