Notes about Jan Arents

Jan Arents, geboren 3 mei 1586, koopman te Groningen, Oude Boteringestraat, in "het Elandshoorn", overleden tussen 1635 en 1646, zoon van Arent Cornelis en Anneke Jans. Hij trouwt 2) op 26 juli 1635 met Anneke Eppes, overleden na 8 oktober 1639.
Op 18 januari 1623 wordt de bierbrouwer Gijse Hendriks in Termunterzijl failliet verklaard. De schuldeisers zijn in een groot gedeelte van de provincie Groningen te vinden. Daarbij is ook Jan Arents, Vlaams vermaner in de Boteringestraat te Groningen. De korenkoopman Jan Jansen Mabé, vermaner te Groningen, heeft nog 300 Emder guldens te eisen. Naar we mogen aannemen, is dit bedrag ontstaan door de koop van brouwgerst. Ook Jurien Tomas, de vermaner der Groninger Oude Vlamingen, die in 1637 uit de doopsgezinde gemeente van Groningen gebannen wordt, heeft nog 68 daler en 6½ stuiver te goed.
Op 22 maart 1637 wordt Jan Arendts, koopman en vermaner, wonend in het Block aan de Oude Boteringestraat te Groningen, 50 jaar oud, als getuige gehoord in een rechtszaak, die door de stad Groningen wordt aangespannen tegen Uko Walles.
Op 8 april 1637 werd Jan Arents veroordeeld tot het betalen van een boete van 150 gulden, omdat in zijn huis bijeenkomsten waren gehouden van volgelingen van de doopsgezinde leraar Uko Walles.
De Groninger Oude Vlaamse gemeente, ook wel Ucke Wallisten genoemd, naar hun voormalige oudste Ucke Walles. Verder worden voor hen de aanduidingen ?Jan Arents volck? of ?Arent Jansens volck? gehanteerd.
"Voorts Jan Jansz Mabé van Groningen en zijn schoonzoon Jan Arends in het Blok van Groningen. Deze laatste is de vader van een beroemd oudste aldaar Arend Jans (1610?1677). Misschien is hij dezelfde die (alsdan in tweede huwelijk en naar Appingedam verhuisd) de stamvader der Blaupot's werd."
