Hij ontving op 31 augustus 1765 een borgbrief van Oud en Nieuw Gastel, omdat hij zich in de huwelijkse staat had begeven en zich elders wilde vestigen. Zijn domicilie koos hij in de Heen onder Steenbergen. Daar kocht hij van Leendert Valk, bouwman in de Heen, voor f 650 een hoefje, bestaande uit een huis, schuur en verdere timmerage, met 5 gemeten 83 roeden land.
