Was in de jaren 1688-1714 schepen van Nieuw Gastel. Als weduwnaar van Tanneken Berents Verbregt werd op 15 februari 1680 bepaald dat Joost Gerrits Vermaet in het volle bezit van de boedel kon blijven onder de verplichting de drie onbejaarde weeskinderen, waarover zijn broer Jacob Geraerts Vermaet toeziende voogd was, op te voeden en hen bij hun achttiende jaar de som van elk 3 gulden uit te reiken.
