Notes about Jacobus Hendricus "Ko" Helsloot

In 1943 moest hij naar Duitsland voor dwangarbeid. Hij kwam terecht in Lager Mannesmann in Langschede ( Ruhr). Dit Lager was een kamp voor gevangenen en gewone arbeiders die in de ijzerfabriek van Mannesmann werkten. Vanwege ondervoeding lag het sterfpercentage onder de buitenlandse arbeiders rond 12-15%, 4 x zo hoog als onder de Duitse collega’s. Door een ingewanden ziekte moest hij geopereerd worden en aan de gevolgen daarvan is hij overleden. Hij werd in Duitsland begraven maar na de oorlog is hij herbegraven. Hij ligt nu op het ereveld in Loenen.
Zijn naam staat op een plaquette in de Hofkerk te Amsterdam met de namen van parochianen die weggevoerd werden in de Tweede Wereldoorlog en niet terug kwamen.
