Question/answer » Which files can I put in my family archive?
In your family archive you can keep photos, scans and documents. These file types are allowed:
JPG, PNG and GIF: photos and scans.
PDF: documents, such as a scanned marriage booklet, a letter or a memorial card.
A file may be up to 20 MB in size.
How do I add a file?
In your archive go to Pictures and click Add image.
Choose the file on your computer. On a phone or tablet you can also take a photo right away.
Give the file a title and a description.
Documents in PDF
Family Archivist automatically makes a preview image of a PDF. Participants can read and browse the document in the archive. Several pages in one file is no problem.
Tips
Scan photos at 300 dpi or more. Then details stay visible when zooming in.
Keep the original on your own computer too. The archive is a place to share, not your only copy.
Genealogical publications are copyright protected. Although data is often retrieved from public archives, the searching, interpreting, collecting, selecting and sorting of the data results in a unique product. Copyright protected work may not simply be copied or republished.
Please stick to the following rules
Request permission to copy data or at least inform the author, chances are that the author gives permission, often the contact also leads to more exchange of data.
Do not use this data until you have checked it, preferably at the source (the archives).
State from whom you have copied the data and ideally also his/her original source.
