Question/answer » My GEDCOM file is very large, can I upload it to Genealogy Online?

The maximum size of files that can be uploaded to Genealogy Online is 100MB. If your GEDCOM file is larger than 100MB, you can still upload your GEDCOM, but with an intermediate step: the file must first be compressed (ZIPed).

On Windows you can easily compress files by clicking the GEDCOM file in the file explorer with the right mouse button. A menu opens, click here on the 'Copy to' option, after which another menu opens. Click here Compressed (zipped) folder. Windows will now compress the file, the result is a much smaller file (recognizable by the .zip file extension), while no data has been lost!

You can offer the ZIP file to Genealogy Online. Genealogy Online recognizes the ZIP file and will decompress the file after which it is processed.
