Question/answer » What happens with my GEDCOM file?

If you provide your genealogical data in GEDCOM format via the administration page, Dropbox or a genealogy program (which can publish directly on Genealogy Online) to Genealogy Online, this data is used to make a publication on the Internet. Genealogy Online ensures that this publication is easy to find, so that interested parties can view your family tree.

The GEDCOM file itself is not made available to visitors, not even to partners of Coret Genealogie and / or third parties.

There are two exceptions:

  • As an author, you can download your own GEDCOM after logging in at www.genealogieonline.nl/en/mijn/ . In the unlikely event that you have lost your data due to, for example, a computer crash and do not have a good backup, the copy at Genealogy Online can help you out!
  • if you give permission, your GEDCOM file will be shared with Patronomia, which will make a book of your family tree data.
