Question/answer » Can I use the same data for multiple publications?
It is not advisable to use one and the same GEDCOM file for multiple publications on Genealogy Online that are then placed under other titles / addresses. Visitors to the website will not understand why certain people appear in multiple publications. In addition, other family tree researchers who use Genealogy Online will receive notification of clues several times, while these are essentially duplicate reports.
You have various options for explaining what your publication is about / leading your publication:
Via the edit page you can enter a text in the Edit publication details field in the Introduction field, source references and / or acknowledgments that is displayed on the start page of your publication.
Via the management page you can use Startpoints in this publication to designate certain persons as ancestor / mother or proband. A pedigree or pedigree is made of the selected persons in report form which you can give a title. This allows you to emphasize certain lines within your publication. Starting points are also shown on the start page of your publication.
Genealogical publications are copyright protected. Although data is often retrieved from public archives, the searching, interpreting, collecting, selecting and sorting of the data results in a unique product. Copyright protected work may not simply be copied or republished.
Please stick to the following rules
Request permission to copy data or at least inform the author, chances are that the author gives permission, often the contact also leads to more exchange of data.
Do not use this data until you have checked it, preferably at the source (the archives).
State from whom you have copied the data and ideally also his/her original source.
