John, bp. 5 Sep. 1725, Wemyss wit: James Philip, Wm. Hutton [163], Pr. of m. 9 Feb., m. 22 Mar. 1745, Wemyss p. (John of Methil Hill), Margaret Arthur, of Scoonie p. [166]. Pr. also recorded same date in Scoonie p. [169]. It is believed this m. relates to ancestor, as their first two children were named Elspeth & Robert. Elspeth was bp. 16 Feb. 1745, Wemyss p., where John was shown as a coalier in Methel Hill, and Robt. King, who, it is believed, was m. to John's sister, Katherine, was a witness [170]. Their next child, Katherine, was bp. 24 Jan. 1748 in Inveresk p., with Robt. King & Wm. Lindsay, pittmen, as witnesses [151]. It would appear that the families of Robt. King & Katherine Lindsay, John Lindsay & Margt. Arthur, and Wm. Lindsay & Marion Lumbsden came to Inveresk p. from Wemyss p. about the same time. John Linze was bu. 12 Apr. 1788, Inveresk p., as a colhewer in Cowpits [148].

About the Book
This book is a work of over 30 years research of records of coalmining parishes of Scotland in the counties of Midlothian, Fife, West Lothian, East Lothian, Lanark, and Stirling; the counties of Northumberland and Durham in England, and a few areas of Australia.
The families include ANDERSON, ARCHIBALD, BLACK, BOYD, BROWN, CHEYNE, CRAWFORD, CUNNINGHAM, FLEUCKER, JACK, JOHNSTON, KING, LINDSAY, LOURIE, MILLER, MOFFAT, NEILSON, PENTLAND, PORTEOUS, REID, ROBERTSON, RUSSEL, SMITH, STEEL, WALKER, WILLIAMSON, WILSON, and others. Many of them are traced back well over 300 years. Each line, treated alphabetically, is fully documented with sources used, contains supportive evidence, and an index of complete names. Some information on Scottish family research, and on Scottish coalminers, is also given.
The book is 293 pages, hardcover, and is illustrated.
